Maintaining grout in high-traffic areas like entryways, bathrooms, and kitchens can be challenging due to the constant wear and tear. But with some advice from our experts, you’ll be able to keep your grout surfaces spotless for longer.

So, without further ado, here are some of the best tips we have gathered from our years of experience that will help you maintain grout in high-traffic areas.

Tips To Maintain Grout in High-traffic Areas

⇒ Mop & Vacuum Regularly

Grout in high-traffic areas gets soiled more frequently. The dirt and grime keep accumulating between the grout lines until it eventually turns dull and drab. Over time, this can ruin the appearance of the entire surface.

The best way to prevent this is by regularly cleaning the grout. Daily sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming keep the dirt and grime off high-traffic surfaces. So, mop the area with a microfiber mop and vacuum without using attachments like a beater bar to prevent damage when cleaning grout.

Note: We recommend a daily cleaning frequency of 2-4 times a week for high-traffic grout surfaces.

⇒ Apply a Grout Sealer

Moisture, dirt, and dust can slip between the cracks in grout and lead to mold growth. It can also cause staining and discoloration of the grout. That’s why sealing the grout lines is important.

Seal the grout lines immediately with an appropriate sealant when you notice any damage or crack in them. Check the sealing from time to time and reapply it every one to two years.

⇒ Clean Spills Promptly

In our experience in cleaning tile and grout, we have seen many grout surfaces stained and discolored due to improper stain removal. If you let the spill sit on a high-traffic surface, it will seep into the grout lines and cause damage.

So whenever you notice spills on a grouted surface, blot it with a clean cloth before it goes inside the grout lines. Then, apply a mild grout cleaning solution ( 1 cup water + 2 tablespoons of any laundry detergent like OxiClean).

Scrub with a non-abrasive item like a soft-bristled brush and rinse the surface with cold water. Dry the area with another clean cloth and ensure no moisture sits between the grout lines.

⇒ Deep Clean Periodically

To maintain grout in high-traffic areas, it is essential to deep clean the surfaces. It will protect the area from excess dirt and grime and remove stubborn stains and spots. You should deep clean as per the needs and requirements of your place, but you’ll get the best results by deep cleaning every 3-6 months.

Start by removing the surface dirt and debris. Then, prepare the cleaning paste by mixing baking soda with water and pour white vinegar into a spray bottle. Next, apply the baking soda paste evenly between the grout lines with a toothbrush and spray the vinegar on the grout lines.

Let the solution sit for some time, then scrub the grout lines vigorously with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse the area with warm water and repeat. Finally, allow the surface to air-dry without disturbance.

⇒ Keep the Grout Dry

While deep cleaning high-traffic grout areas, ensure you don’t let any moisture sit for long as it can lead to hard water stains. Wipe away any remaining residue from the solution with a dry microfiber cloth. Also, open the windows and turn on the fans for thorough drying.
